2006-2007 Lost Mittens Animal Rescue
Senior animals can help senior citizens in numerous ways. They provide companionship, affection, entertainment and can add purpose to a senior's day.
Seniors can help animals
Animal overpopulation continues to be a serious problem. Thousands of healthy, friendly, adoptable animals are euthanized every year in shelters because no one steps forward to adopt them.
The Senior Companions program is designed to assist people in overcoming obstacles that prevent them from bringing a pet into their lives. Such obstacles might include:
Worry about what would happen to a pet
If you become unable to take care of your pet, you or a family member may return the pet. It will then be placed into another carefully screened home.
Concern about the expense of a pet
Donations allow us to reduce the adoption fee for pets in this program. Each pet is examined by a veterinarian, neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas/parasites and litter box trained. Start-up supplies can be included as part of the adoption.
Transportation issues
If you are a good candidate for one of our pets but don't drive, a volunteer can come to your home with information on available cats and a cat can be delivered to you.
The personality of a mature animal is fully developed and apparent, making good matches between pet and owner possible. Because they have their rambunctious kitten/puppy years behind them, adult animals make ideal companions in less active homes. Mature aniamls have many years of love and affection to share. Life expectancy for an indoor cat is 15 years or more.
Have you thought about adopting a animal for yourself or a senior you know, but are concerned about potential obstacles?
